SEJARAH
Diponegoro University established the Chemistry Department in the
Faculty of Science and Mathematics in 1988, under the supervision of the
BP-MIPA (Management Board of Mathematics and Natural Sciences), based
on Rector of Diponegoro University’s Decree No. 63/SK/PT09/1988 and
Rector of Diponegoro University’s Decree No. 103/SK/PT09/1986. Chemistry
Department is officially one of the departments in Faculty of
Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Diponegoro University, according to
the Ministry of Education and Culture Decree No. 0369/0/1993 and the
Directorate General of Higher Education Decree No. 15/DIKTI/KEP/1994 and
No. 22 O/DIKTI/KEP/1996. Based on the Rector of Diponegoro University’s
Decree No. 160/SK/PT09/1994 and the decision of the Mathematics and
Natural Sciences Consortium, the Chemistry Department launched its
undergraduate program for the first time, with 144 SKS and a four-year
study duration.
During its development, the Chemistry Department of Faculty of
Science and Mathematics, Diponegoro University, has five specialist
groups: Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry,
Inorganic Chemistry, and Biochemistry. After more than ten years of
operation and a series of development processes, the BAN-PT (National
Accreditation Board of Higher Education) awarded a grade of B to the
Chemistry major in 1998. It was issued by BAN-PT under Decree No.
0086/Ak-I.1/UDEKHM/VIII/1998. It was then reaccredited by BAN-PT in
2004, earning a grade of C under BAN-PT Decree No.
06348/Ak-VIII-0/UDEKHM/ IV/2003. Chemistry Department received a B grade
in 2007 under BAN-PT Decree No. 030/BAN.PT/AK/X/S.1/XII/2007. Finally,
the Chemistry Department was awarded an A grade by BAN-PT in 2013 by
decree No. 237/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-XVI/S/XI/2013.
In its 18th anniversary, Diponegoro University’s Chemistry
Department is continually working to prepare graduates to face global
challenges. To accomplish this, the Chemistry Department envisions
becoming the Center of Chemistry Educational and Research Activities in
2018 with applications that will produce graduates with competitive
excellence in promoting the worth and dignity of people. The mission is
to develop all potentials in a coordinated way. As a result, an academic
society will be formed via the processes of education, research, and
the applications to each laboratory and research team. They will do
competent research that is relevant to current developments for the
purpose of national welfare, ensuring that people continue to be
interested in and appreciate chemistry.

Vision
To become a chemistry education institution based on research
that leads to technological independence and entrepreneurship skills by
2025.
Mission
- To develop graduates who have mastered chemistry knowledge and the
ability to apply it, as well as entrepreneurial skills, COMPLETE
(Communicator, Profesional, Leader, Educator, Thinker dan Entrepreneur).
- To conduct research for the advancement of chemistry and its
applications in its area of interest: (i) Natural Resources and
Biomolecules, (ii) Materials and Processes, and (iii) Energy.
- Applying the findings of education and research to address community needs.
Objectives
The objective of the Chemistry Undergraduate Program is to
develop graduates with a knowledge of the chemical sciences and its
applications, as well as the requisite entrepreneurial skills for global
competitiveness. These competences may be stated in the following
manner:
- To be competent, qualified, competitive, and exhibit an
entrepreneurial spirit as a result of student-centered learning methods
(SCL) and morally based lifelong learning principles. These traits are
necessary for overcoming community issues, participating in the
advancement of science and technology, and adapting to industrial
development.
- To be competent of undertaking chemical research pro-actively,
creatively, innovatively, and intensely for the benefit of others on a
local, national, and worldwide scale.
- To be able to contribute to the local community and the country by
identifying and analyzing community issues and using the necessary
chemical science and technology to address these problems, either in
part or in whole. These contributions are essential for enhancing the
quality of human life.
- To be capable to take leadership responsibilities and to possess a strong sense of professional ethics and personal integrity.
- To be capable of working both alone and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
